Temporary or Permanent Work Permit
Any foreigners who want to exercise a profession must have a work permit. The work permit will normally be granted only if there are no qualified persons locally available. In general, requests for work-permits will only be taken into consideration if filed through a local employer, who has to accept full responsibility for any possible expenses to be made by the government relative to the employee(s).
Written Permits
With the exception of tourists, all other persons should have a written permit to prove their legal presence on the island. This means that one (unless a tourist) should not travel to or be on the island pending a request for a residence-and/or work permit.

Obtaining Dutch citizenship entitles the new Hollander to many benefits including the ability to work and live anywhere in the European Union, which includes a total of twenty-six different countries. A Dutch citizen is entitled to vote in elections and is no longer considered a foreign national. One obtains Dutch citizenship through either the option procedure or the naturalization procedure. This guide provides an overview of the steps required for both.
Instructions For Dutch Citizenship
●Check to see if you are eligible for the option procedure. Eligible applicants for the option procedure, the fastest and easiest way to obtain Dutch citizenship, were born in the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, or Aruba. If you qualify for the option procedure, report to your local Department of Civil Affairs and fill out an option declaration. If you are not eligible for this procedure, continue through the following steps.
●Live in the Netherlands under a valid residence permit for an uninterrupted period of five years. The residence permit may be obtained at the Dutch embassy.
●Take and pass the civic integration examination. This exam requires the applicant to be able to read, write, and speak Dutch. The examination is administered orally and is taken at the Dutch embassy. An examination fee must be paid to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As of 2009, the examination fee was 350 euros.
●Renounce your former nationality. As a Dutch citizen, you will be required to formally renounce your previous nationality. Failure to do so will result in a revocation of your Dutch citizenship.
●Acquire the necessary documents. In addition to completing either the option process or the naturalization process, you will need to acquire the following documents: a valid passport, a valid residence permit, a legal birth certificate, the civil integration diploma.
●Pay the applicable fees. Check with the Dutch embassy for any updated information regarding fees. As of 2009, the fee for a person acquiring Dutch citizenship through the option process was 139 euros and the fee for a person acquiring Dutch citizenship through the naturalization process was 366 euros.
