Residency/Citizenship

The Regal Flag of Belize

To qualify for residency, applicants must have legally resided in Belize continuously for one year, leaving the country for no more than 2 weeks over this period unless for an emergency. This requirement can be waived for retirees with a regular source of income, and investors with more than US$25,000 in hard currency to invest. These individuals can apply for a permanent residency card immediately upon arrival.

Applicants must submit the following: three passport photos, a health certificate that must be obtained from a local medical institution, a police report from the applicant’s local police department, a bank statement, birth certificate for minor children or dependents, and a work permit if applicable. An individual may apply for citizenship once he has resided in Belize for no less than five years or after one year if married to a Belizean citizen.

An individual can apply for citizenship if he/she has been a resident for five years or after one year if he/she is married to a Belizean.  Applications for citizenship require the same information as those for residency.  When citizenship is granted the individual does not pay an Immigration deposit, instead there is a fee of $200.00 BZ for each adult and $100.00 BZ for each child.
